Tooth Whitening….In the office or at home

Your smile is one of the most important features on your face and having it its whitest and brightest can illuminate your entire face. A bright smile can raise your self-confidence and leave a memorable impression wherever you go. Teeth whitening is one of the fastest and most economical ways to improve the appearance of your smile. While many over-the-counter teeth bleaching treatments can give you the initial results you are looking for, the results often fade after a few weeks because they lack the strength and efficacy of an in-house dental tooth whitening process and the expertise of a cosmetic dentist. The customized application of the bleach solution, whether by the specially made trays or manually by the dental staff ensures that the strength of the solution remains undiluted throughout the time the solution is in contact with the teeth. With proper care, a tooth whitening treatment can give you visibly whiter teeth for several years.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kits

Some patients prefer to use a teeth whitening procedure that they can take home. These take-home whitening kits can be used in conjunction with an in-office procedure to maintain the brilliant whiteness between treatments. Using the take-home kits in this manner is especially helpful if you smoke or drink a lot of staining beverages, such as coffee or tea. Alternatively, you can purchase a take-home whitening kit to use on its own as a method to whiten your teeth. The great advantage of this system is that you have full control over how white your teeth get and you can touch them up rather inexpensively and without having to come to the office.

In the Office Whitening with ZOOM!

When at-home whiteners can’t do the trick, it might be time to consider professional tooth whitening in our dental office. We offer the latest in tooth whitening technology with the ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System.

How Zoom! Works

A whitening gel is placed on the row of teeth that are to be treated. The gel’s active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. The ZOOM! light breaks the hydrogen peroxide down, allowing oxygen to enter the enamel and dentin, bleaching colored and stained areas. The structure of the tooth is unharmed and stays exactly the same. The Zoom! light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of up to eight shades. The ZOOM! Teeth Whitening System is combined with home bleaching to give maximum and desirable results.

The Advantages of ZOOM!

  • Fast treatment time - Only 45 minutes!
  • Results - Immediate results with an average of 8 Shades lighter!
  • The results last much longer than traditional whitening treatments
  • Less chance of fading over time compared to other systems
  • It is performed by a dental professional for a guaranteed outcome
  • It is safe, comfortable, and painless

Implant Restorations

Dental implants are the most realistic tooth replacements available. Implants begin with a surgically placed post that is securely anchored into the jawbone. The bone surrounding the anchor will heal in approximately six months. With a completely solid and stable anchor point, an artificial tooth is then installed. The end result is a new artificial tooth that is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth, both from an aesthetic and functional standpoint. In cases where several teeth are missing, dental implants can also act as the teeth to which bridges are fixed, again perfectly mimicking the function of healthy, natural teeth.

Night Guards

Nightguards reduce the friction between your teeth and prevent further damage from occurring. Bruxism, or teeth grinding, is a common condition affecting about one in four people, there are several causes for bruxism including stress, anxiety, and trouble sleeping. This condition should not be ignored as it can lead to severe tooth damage and destroy the structure and enamel your teeth have. Many people grind their teeth at night while they sleep so they might not even be aware of the damage being done inside their mouth.

To reduce dental damage and protect your teeth, a nightguard should be worn every night. A nightguard consists of one tray worn on a row of teeth. It acts as a barrier between your teeth to protect them from the damage grinding causes. Not only can bruxism affect the structure of your teeth, it can cause jaw pain and headaches. Your partner can also be affected because of the noises constant grinding can cause at night.

By grinding your teeth, their structure starts to wear down and the enamel begins to fade. This is the leading cause of tooth trauma and a very significant cause for tooth loss and gum recession. A nightguard will be molded for your specific teeth to ensure a proper and comfortable fit. It will decrease the pressure and friction caused by grinding and will prevent further damage from affecting your teeth and jaw. Having a nightguard made by a professional dentist is very important because a proper fit means the best protection for your teeth.

Dental Technology

Nevo Cad Cam Crown Scanner and Mill From E4D Technologies

The Nevo digital camera allows the doctors to scan a crown prep and  mill that crown at the office without a separate appointment. Traditionally, the doctor will prep the tooth and take an impresson. Then, they will need to make a temporary crown to cement in the patient's mouth. After 2-3 weeks the patient will need to come back to the dentist office for their permanent crown.  Dr. John and Dr. Mara can reduce the 2-3 weeks to just one appointment. This is an advantage for patients with busy schedules.

Identafi oral Cancer Screening Wand

Identafi® technology includes 19 issued and 7 pending patents relating to the detection of various types of pre-cancerous conditions (dysplasia) and cancers.

The detection is made through the processing of optical fluorescence and reflectance in certain body tissues. The Identafi® core technologies are based on high-speed, high-resolution capabilities from its patented optical processing technology and includes the ability to read metabolic and physiologic differences in diseased and healthy tissue in the human body.

The core technology provides for the Identafi® technology platform development and introduction of cancer diagnostic products.

The screening product is housed in an easily portable unit designed for use in the offices of dentists, specialists and general practitioners for screening and diagnosing cancers and pre-cancers.

Navigator Soft Tissue Laser

The Navigator soft tissue laser allows Dr. John and Dr. Mara to quickly reduce the pain and increase the speed of healing for  mouth ulcers.

Traditionally, a patient could apply over the counter medicine to the ulcer to ease discomfort while it heals on its own.

The Navigator is also used by the doctors in clinical dentistry for periodontal work, seating crowns, and implementing bridges.

"Wand” Single tooth Dental Anesthesia unit

The Wand is a computer controlled unit that allows dentists to deliver their anesthesia without a needle.  The classic syringe injection prevents the anesthesia from a slow absorption which may cause temporary discomfort.

This technology allows dentists to calculate the ideal speed for the body to absorb to minimize the amount of pain felt during the administration of the anesthesia.

Dr. Dunlap was so mindful of my concerns; he had great ideas, I was so pleased with the results, I love my smile.
